Theater is where we practice being human together. I've spent the last twenty years proving that to be true—through directing plays that challenge and delight audiences, producing work at the highest level of American theater, and leading organizations through genuine transformation.
I started in musical theater and loved it, and my career led me to specializing in producing and directing world premiere plays. But I was drawn to a bigger puzzle: how do you build and run theaters that are artistically bold, financially sustainable, and genuinely welcoming to both artists and audiences? That question has shaped everything I've done since.
Right now, at Village Theatre in Washington State, I'm building something that excites me. We're taking real risks on ambitious programming. We're breaking records in ticket sales and subscription growth because we're refusing to compromise on quality. And we're creating systems where artists and staff actually want to show up—where their ideas matter, their time is respected, and the work gets the resources it deserves.
I've learned that the best work happens when you lead with transparency, trust the people around you, and refuse to accept shortcuts. That's true in a rehearsal room. That's true running an institution. That's true everywhere.
